MUNATAREY
Munatarey, meaning “We are Together” in Hausa, is a compelling digital fusion of portrait photography and textured design, crafted by Nigerian artist JAI. The piece features two young Hausa girls draped in richly colored hijabs—an emblem of modesty and identity—set against a tactile backdrop inspired by traditional West African motifs. A stylized round hut adorned with indigenous patterns anchors the background, symbolizing community and rooted heritage.
JAI’s work embodies a visual storytelling style that merges realism and abstraction, celebrating African femininity, kinship, and the enduring warmth of northern Nigerian culture. By layering photographic realism with woven-like textures and cultural elements, the artist invites the viewer into an intimate narrative of unity and pride, framed in the visual language of both tradition and modern digital art.
